Purpose built cabs. Like this Toyota JPN Taxi concept, which could very likely be the replacement for the recently discontinued Comfort/Crown Comfort. I don’t know why, but I like that sort of thing.
There’s also the new LTI TX5 black cab. It kinda looks like a mix between a Fiat 500L and a Riley Elf, but I want one. I think LTI would actually make more money than people think if they sold these to civilians. Kinda like the Checker Marathon.
It’s a niche market, sure. But I’m sure a few people would buy one. All they’d really have to do is take the “Taxi” sign off the roof and not include a taxi meter.

What’s purpose built about the taxi of tomorrow? It’s just an NV200

The Karsan would have been purpose built had it been selected:

Oh yeah I guess it’s just modified, not purpose built. I almost never see them, kind of forgot they existed

For a sec I thought you said “You know what I [don’t] like...” and I was ready to murder someone because yes, purpose-built cabs are awesome.

A van makes a lot of sense for a cab, shame it wasn’t a hybrid or an electric one. Also having more than two rows of seats would also made more sense but I guess there aren’t a lot of large groups that travel by taxi.

Also sold as the Chevrolet City Express, though I think those are even rarer:

It does make sense, it’s just odd that they chose the ugliest of the small vans. A hybrid would make even more sense, nearly all of the taxis here are hybrids

Purpose built taxis are cool. Even cooler is DDing a purpose built taxi as a personal car. They seem to be very space efficient - London taxis are like a goddamn Tardis inside.

The old London taxis were great, the later TX units, not so mush.
Theer are many great conversions though.
Peugeot Expert E7 taxi.
Ford Transit Custom Tourneo.

I hate ‘em too - believe it was a delivery van they cobbled into a taxi.
We need far more of these handicapped-accessible vehicles. And they ride pretty well ...

In the U.K. we have a variety of modified vans converted into taxis.
Six seaters (three fixed and three jump seats) with wheelchair access.
